Growing Worries

The CSI had plummeted further below the optimism threshold in 2Q2021. At 64.3, it had lost 34.6 points from 1Q2021. Current finances had weakened, and are expected to remain gloomy in the next quarter. The outlook for employment is equally lackluster. 77% of the respondents are anticipating a hike in prices in the coming months, the highest proportion tabulated since 4Q2017. Consumers are also expected to exercise more caution in their spending for major consumer durables by tightening their purse strings for the rest of 2021.
